Putting on deodorant is a part of life and who wants to  be slathering their pits with chemicals? Many people around the world have made the switch over to natural deodorant alternatives and that makes perfect sense – but do you know the difference between an Antiperspirant, Deodorant and Anti-odorant?

“What is an anti-odorant?” is one of the most frequently asked questions that we get here at gonn. But before we answer that question, we feel that it’s important for you to understand why sweating is good for your body.

Why is perspiring so important?

Perspiration is completely natural and directly linked to your internal temperature regulation. If your body gets too warm, your brain sends automatic impulses to your glands, telling them to secrete perspiration. The thin layer of fluid (sweat) produced on your skin will then evaporate, which extracts heat from your body, causing your body to cool down. Furthermore, perspiring ensures that toxins are eliminated from your body.

What is the difference between an antiperspirant, a deodorant and an anti-odorant?

An antiperspirant blocks the exits of the sweat glands long-term, and therefore, prevents the production of sweat.

A deodorant, however, does not prevent sweating; it has alcohol and fragrances that mask the smell. This characteristically ‘sweaty smell’ is disguised by the alcohol and fragrances in the deodorant. Which often results in a body odor that is a mix of sweat and fragrances from your deodorant.

An anti-odorant is what your armpits really deserve, so that’s why we’ve created a natural vegan anti-odorant here at gonn. We know the importance of perspiration, and we know that the idea of masking a smell is illogical and out-dated. So we choose to attack the bacteria directly responsible for the smelly sweat. No bacteria, means no smell. Simple. Our product does not close off your pores, but simply prevents the smell of your perspiration occurring in the first place.

What makes gonn so unique?

gonn is an anti-odorant – an antiperspirant stops you from sweating, a regular deodorant disguises the odor from perspiration, whereas gonn prevents smell altogether. You still sweat, but you smell like absolutely nothing.

gonn is scent-free. Instead of smelling of your deodorant’s fragrance, gonn allows you to smell like yourself. gonn contains no perfume, this way you can decide whether you want to smell of nothing, or of your favourite perfume or aftershave!

So what is in gonn?

Firstly, you’ll find that a lot of things are not in gonn. No aluminium, no parabens, no colourings, no fragrances and no alcohol. We don’t use any animal-derived ingredients either, so gonn is 100% Vegan!

We use natural ingredients such as pure distilled water, mineral salts, magnesium chloride, guar gum and a water based essential oil.
